The missing piece
It first starts with the guide telling them their mission to save Jumanji begins with them finding the missing piece. I feel like that speaks to the Holy Spirit guiding us on our path and leading us where we should be and then he hands it over to us. Just like in the movie the guide then hands them this old, tattered map. That’s the Holy Spirit giving us God’s map which is written in the Bible. However, just like in the movie, the guy he hands it to can’t read the map. He thinks there is nothing there and nothing on it, until suddenly the person next to him leans over and says he sees it. They couldn’t understand why he could see it and not the other guy.
A couple of things here I feel like speak to the fact that we shouldn’t be asking other people to approve or proofread our plans when they haven’t been given the vision to do so. If they would have believed the first guy who couldn’t see it, they would have been lost and wandering, which God doesn’t want us to do. That is why he has given us the map which is His word and then he has given us the vision to read it when we sit down with him and get to know him better, we understand his word even better. The second part of this part is then right after they realize the one guy can read the map, they realize each of them has been given their own set of talents or strengths. In the movie they figure out how to access each of their strengths and they literally each have a list of strengths and weaknesses and all of them are different.
Each of them on their own wouldn’t be able to accomplish the tasks at hand, however they realized that when they work together all their talents work in harmony and they are even stronger together and unstoppable. I feel like that speaks to the body of Christ. God has given each of his children different strengths and talents and giftings and passions and separately we are not as effective, but when we come together, we are unstoppable. That’s what this group of people figure out in the next scene is they are confronted with a problem. To find their missing piece they must conquer this quest for whatever is inside the box in front of them. They open it and realize it’s a snake that tried to kill them. They all acted together they were able to kill the snake and save each other but it took all of them. I think this is so powerful and speaks to when we come together as the body of Christ, we can take out the snakes of this world.
Then after they defeated the snake, they were disappointed because they thought they were supposed to find their missing piece of the map, but they didn’t. Then this other person shows up as these guys are being chased by bad guys and this new person saves them and helps them get out of harm’s way. They didn’t know it, but this other guy had been there much longer than they had been, and he knew the landscape way better and was able to take secret passageways to escape the bad guys. I feel like this speaks to the different levels that each person is on in their own faith walk and how we all need to have people around us who have been here longer and know the secret passageways and know how to defeat the enemies coming against us.
Then in the movie they must accomplish one more mission that they could never do without everything single one of them helping. They each played a part in their success, and they overcame all the challenges together. This is self-explanatory again about how we as a church must work together and stick together to overcome these challenges and not work against each other or become divided. Then after they accomplished their last mission, they realized the missing piece was never on the map, but it was the new person they gained along the way!
They realized just how valuable each person was to the overall mission and how they needed everyone and when they were together, they were whole. I just feel like this speaks so much to what God has been telling me about becoming whole and being all myself. To accept all the parts of me and not abandon or cut any piece of me off because I will never be as affective without being whole. God created us to be whole and to be fully ourselves, yet this world tries to tear us apart. I feel like what the movie confirmed to me is that God is wanting to bring each of us back into our true selves and help us live full and whole and not just pieces of ourselves. How will we be able to take on the enemies of this world if we aren’t complete?
So, I really feel like this is God reminding you and me that this journey he has us on is about becoming fully ourselves. It may be hard along the way, but it will certainly be worth it in the end when we find the success we have been looking for. He is also here to remind us that we are better together and to be open to new friendships and relationships that God could be using to help bring us back into our wholeness with ourselves and with him.
Anyways I pray this blesses each of you and if you want a great visual feel free to watch the movie Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle, it is great and spoke so deeply to me!
With love,
Kaley
