Balance
Balance…think about that word for a second and what comes to mind for you? For me, riding a horse is the very first thing that comes to mind. When you are riding you are not only in charge of yourself, but you are also now in control of this thousand-pound animal that is under you that has a mind and a will of their own. I always believed the art of riding was to make it look easy, but it really is the art of balancing. Balancing yourself and balancing everything for the horse under you as well. Now for all my horse people out there I want you to think of how many different things you are doing and thinking about while you are riding and how many different things need your attention at any given moment. Such as you and your horse’s posture or your surroundings or your speed or their headset or people or animals around you… now my question for you is… What happens if you lose focus? What happens to the horse’s speed when you’re too focused on their headset? What happens to their performance if you’re too focused on those around you? What happens when we give too much of our attention to one thing? I’ll tell you. The art of balancing everything nicely together now has unraveled and fallen apart because you’ve redirected all your focus to something else. God used this riding analogy to remind me that the very same thing can happen in our personal life as well. If we aren’t careful, we can lose the balance of work and family time really quick. Or maybe we get sucked into spending too much time on social media that we lose focus of who we actually are. Or maybe we spend way too much energy trying to please those around us that we lose focus of what we want. Or maybe we struggle finding that balance between work and school and lose focus of why we are doing this in the first place. I know it can happen so quickly because it has happened to me time after time. I get so busy with life that I forget to actually live… or I get so focused on the future that I forget I live in the present. But I want to encourage you with this reminder that we must hold onto our balance in this season. Don’t lose focus, don’t allow yourself to get distracted with something that isn’t for you and don’t lose your balance. God has such big plans in store for you that He needs your full attention on Him and I promise He will help you balance everything that He has called you to.
With love,
